"To measure what is measurable and to try to render measurable what is not so as yet." – Galileo Galilei

"Quantum mumbo jumbo" is usually what I respond when people ask me what I do for a living. After the obligatory frown, they gather their courage and conclude that it must probably be something with lasers and intricate experiments. The frowns return when I entrust them with the obscure truth: The only advanced equipment I use is a laptop and the coffee machine. For the layman it can be hard to conceive, the fact that I am a theoretical quantum physicist who fills his days with calculations and some occasional proofs. The shocking truth is, however, that I absolutely love it!

Hello, I am Mattia Walschaers, a theoretical quantum optician, specialised in non-Gaussian quantum states in the continuous-variable regime. I am a permanent CNRS researcher in the Multimode Quantum Optics group at the Laboratoire Kastler Brossel. I have the strange talent of getting passionate about anything related to theoretical quantum physics. Welcome to my webpage!
